Why the government should back the LISA instead of replacing it
The government has confirmed it plans to replace the Lifetime ISA with a new First Time Buyer ISA, with more details expected at the Autumn Budget.
While any government changes aren’t expected until at least 2028 - and existing savers will be able to use the LISA indefinitely - we don't think replacing it is the right answer.
It's a significant change to a product that's already helped hundreds of thousands of people get onto the property ladder - and one that's still growing in popularity every year. We believe the LISA working, and that a few targeted improvements could make it work even better for the first-time buyers and future retirees who rely on it - rather than starting again with something new.
Here's our case for why the government should back first-time buyers by backing the Lifetime ISA, not replacing it.
