Why the Lifetime ISA matters, in your own words

Last updated 8 minutes ago

This September, you shared what the LISA really means to you. We read, watched, and listened to every single entry, and choosing a winner wasn’t easy.

We’ve pulled together some of the stories that stayed with us most into one video, including our £5,000 winner and five runners-up, who’ve each won a Moneybox merch bundle.

Why your stories matter

The strongest stories from this campaign will help make the case to the government for protecting and future-proofing the LISA for the savers who’ll rely on it next. The government has already confirmed it’s replacing the LISA with a new First Time Buyer ISA, with further details expected at the Autumn Budget.

Any changes aren’t expected until 2028 at the earliest. If you already have a LISA, the government has confirmed you can keep contributing to it for as long as you like and receive the 25% bonus.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share something so personal. Together, you’re helping us show just how much these accounts mean to real savers.

A 25% government penalty applies if you withdraw money from a Lifetime ISA for any reason other than buying your first home (up to £450,000) or for retirement, and you may get back less than you paid into your Lifetime ISA.

Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may be subject to change in the future.
Remember: if you have a Stocks & Shares LISA, you’re investing, so your capital is at risk. All investing should be long term. The value of your investments can go up and down, and you may get back less than you invest.
