A US stock market index that tracks the performance of thousands of companies listed on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange.
The Nasdaq Composite is a major US stock market index that tracks the performance of thousands of companies listed on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange – many of which are in the tech sector.
It includes big names like Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta, along with lots of smaller, fast-growing firms. Because it’s so tech-heavy, the Nasdaq Composite is often seen as a snapshot of how the tech industry – and high-growth companies more broadly – are doing.
When people say ‘the Nasdaq is up’ or ‘the Nasdaq dropped today,’ they’re usually talking about this index.
