Job Brief
We are looking for a lawyer who wants to be at the heart of the action, and believes in legal as a business enabler . With responsibilities for both “core” legal work and also contributing directly to the development of commercial initiatives and products, the role will be both professionally varied and personally fulfilling. You’ll have ample opportunity to develop and own your own areas of the team and internal business relationships . We are at an exciting inflection point in both Moneybox’s and Team Legal’s journey. We have laid the foundations for Team Legal, and are now looking to scale our proposition and impact on the business, with a focus on utilising legal tech to shape the path ahead.
This role will report directly to the Senior Legal Counsel, who leads the team and reports directly into the COO. You will be working alongside another Legal Counsel and a paralegal who we are sponsoring through the SQE.
What you’ll do
- Help us continue to build a function that delivers a best-in-class legal service to the business, working collaboratively with various other teams
- Take the lead on negotiating a broad range of material supplier contracts
- Help scale our supplier onboarding process
- Work collaboratively with the product teams to assist with the roll out of new products, processes and promotions
- Work on a broad range of legal activities such as IP, property, fundraising, litigation and outsourcing
- Risk-spot and proactively identify legal solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risk
- Deal with external counsel
- Draft and advise on agreements that cover complex and cross-functional areas
- Take the initiative to keep up to date on relevant legal developments
Who you are
- A driven, ambitious individual who’s looking to build their career at an exciting very fast-growing company
- Have an interest in legal strategy and legal tech
- Have a genuine interest in financial technology and mobile apps
- Naturally personable, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A learning mindset – and desire to understand context to solve problems effectively
- Collaborative attitude and enjoy working individually as well as within a team
- Know how to have fun whilst maintaining a professional outlook
Experience and skills
- 3-5 year PQE* lawyer, ideally with regulatory, commercial or corporate experience at a top tier law firm
- If you have spent some time in house at a start-up or scale-up that’s definitely a bonus
- Experience drafting and negotiating a wide variety of agreements
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to juggle and prioritise a large number of competing matters
- Strong relationship building and influencing skills
- Fluency in English
