Job Brief
Moneybox is looking for an experienced and expert legal leader with a passion for commercial law to join us as Head of Legal (Commercial) for a 12-month fixed-term contract, covering maternity leave. Reporting to the Legal Director and managing a team of three, this position offers professional variety and personal fulfillment.
Moneybox is at an exciting stage of growth, and the Commercial Legal Team is central to supporting its progress. The Commercial Legal Team is in its relative infancy as a standalone sub-function, and this 12-month contract offers an opportunity to take ownership of and help shape the team. The successful candidate will have significant autonomy to drive initiatives, improve processes, and ensure the team effectively supports Moneybox’s commercial objectives. This role provides a chance to make a tangible impact on our ongoing success and contribute to delivering great outcomes for our customers.
What you’ll do
- Working closely with the Legal Director, you will help Moneybox to continue to build a fantastic Commercial Legal Team that helps deliver great customer outcomes and give our customers confidence in their decisions. As the head of the Commercial Legal Team you will:
- Lead the Commercial Legal Team, including playing a key role in defining and executing the team’s roadmap.
- Drive constant improvements in how the team delivers commercial legal advice.
- Lead the implementation and optimisation of legal tech, including AI contract review and heightened CLM functionality, to enhance the team’s efficiency and scalability.
- Draft, negotiate and advise the Procurement Team and wider business on agreements across a broad spectrum of commercial matters, including material outsourcers, banking partners and wider procurement contracts.
- Draft and update customer-facing terms and conditions and related materials.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to assist with the rollout of new products, processes, and promotions.
- Assist our Compliance Team with regulatory queries.
- Provide legal advice on various other matters, including employment law, property law, and litigation, as needed.
- Stay up-to-date on relevant legal developments and proactively advise the business on potential impacts.
- Work closely with and manage external legal advisors.
Experience and Skills
- An experienced and expert legal leader with significant PQE including in-house experience, preferably within financial services and at a fast-paced start-up or scale-up.
- Experience balancing, prioritising and overseeing the responsibilities of a team to support a company’s goals.
- Experience at coaching and developing a team.
- Pragmatic approach to advice, with the ability to understand our business and apply an appropriate commercial lens to reviews.
- Experience collaborating with Product Teams on the legal aspects of new product developments and enhancements.
- Extensive experience drafting and negotiating a wide variety of sophisticated commercial agreements.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to juggle and prioritise a large number of competing matters.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, particularly with those at a senior level.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.
- Fluency in English.

Working Policy:
We have a hybrid policy that includes 2 days from our London office and 3 from home. If the role states it is either hybrid or remote candidates must be based within the UK.
