Can I help manage someone else’s account?
We can facilitate helping to manage another person’s Moneybox account in the case of lasting powers of attorney, guardianship orders, and Court of Protection orders or PIP recipients.
Lasting Power of Attorney
A lasting power of attorney (LPOA) is a legal document that lets a person make decisions about property and finances on someone else’s behalf. You can name more than one attorney to act on your behalf, but you’ll need to decide whether you’d like them to act jointly, or jointly and individually. This will affect how they manage your Moneybox account.
If there are any restrictions in the power of attorney, we need to comply with them. This might mean that the donor’s attorneys cannot access some of our services, and it may take longer to register the LPOA as we may need additional information.
What documents will we need?
To submit an LPOA, we will need:
- Documentation of the lasting power of attorney, as evidence of authority to act for the donor;
- Confirmation of the donor’s name and address;
- Recent proof of name for the attorney(s), such as a valid passport or driving licence;
- Recent proof of residential address for the main attorney.
The LPOA documentation provided must be:
- The original document or a copy which the Office of the Public Guardian has stamped every page of; or
- Signed on every page by the donor, a solicitor or a notary to confirm that it is a true copy of the original LPOA; or
- A certified summary, downloaded using your provided V-code from the government website.
