Meet our co-founders –

Ben & Charlie

The Moneybox story

In 2015, old school friends turned entrepreneurs, Ben Stanway and Charlie Mortimer decided something needed to be done to help everyone save and invest for their future.

They felt that most of us go through life knowing that we should be doing more for our financial future, but leave it at the bottom of our to-do-list because we’re just not sure where to start. This isn’t surprising when most of us weren’t taught how to save & invest at school, banks often seem more interested in selling us loans and collecting overdraft fees, and the investment industry was built to serve only a wealthy few.

All this makes our plans much harder to achieve, whether that’s buying a home, starting a business, going on a big holiday and affording a comfortable retirement.

Ben and Charlie were determined to change this.

Five years on, Moneybox now has over 450,000 customers saving and investing for their future, and is one of the fastest growing saving and investing platforms in the UK! Customers have over £1 billion in assets on the platform, which are growing an average of £100 million per month.

What were they up to before Moneybox?

Ben has almost a decade of experience in fund management, firstly as an analyst at Fidelity, then at a global equity hedge fund that grew to $2bn in assets under management. In 2013, Ben decided to exercise his entrepreneurial instincts and co-founded Bloom & Wild, Europe’s largest, fastest growing and top-rated direct-to-consumer flower brand.

Charlie’s career began in management consultancy before joining the Daily Mail & General Trust group. There he led the turn-around and trade sale of the dating app, Allegran, launched daily deal site, Wowcher and built OnTrees, the personal finance app that was bought by MoneySuperMarket in 2014.

Why is Moneybox crowdfunding?

Hear from Ben & Charlie in the video below!

“We are both very excited to announce our first ever crowdfund, bringing you, the Moneybox community, even closer to our journey. We have recently completed our Series C funding round with institutional investors, raising our target investment of £30 million. However, we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to both share and shape our future success by investing in Moneybox, so are thrilled to be launching our first crowdfunding raise.”

Crowdfunding enables everyday investors to support companies directly and benefit from their potential growth through buying shares. Remember though, the risks of crowdfunding are different from the risk of investing in funds like those offered by Moneybox. Investing in a startup business carries significant risks, including illiquidity, lack of dividends, loss of your investment and dilution. Please make sure you understand the risks involved by learning more on the Crowdcube website.
